A cartoon in an Indian newspaper depicting Australian police as members of the Ku Klux Klan has sparked fury in Australia.The murder of a young Indian student in Victoria recently which India claims was racially motivated has re-ignited simmering tensions between India and Australia over a spate of attacks on Indian students. Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard condemned the cartoon, describing it as “deeply offensive”
The attacks, many of which appeared to be opportunistic street crime on naive young migrants, led to street protests in India,threatening Australia's lucrative education trade with India.
